First Listen: Bombino - Nomad

imageBombino is the alter ego of Omara Moctar, a Tuareg guitarist from Niger who became famous two years ago with the release of his solo debut album Agadez. Creating this album, Bombino cooperated with Dan Auerbach, producer and lead guitarist of the blues-rock band The Black Keys.

As a Tuareg, youngster Omara Moctar was hunted by the Niger government and had to flee several times. During one such exile, relatives left behind a guitar and he began teaching himself to play it. He eventually studied with the renowned Tuareg guitarist Haja Bebe, who asked him to join his band, where he acquired the nickname Bombino, as a variation on the Italian word for "little child".

First Listen: Bleached - Ride Your Heart

As befits ancient customs, sisterly love includes making a punk/rock-'n-roll album, releasing it through a major indie label of choice and touring around a number of international music venues. The result: a well-received energetic punk rock album influenced by the Great 70's.

Sisters Jennifer and Jessie Clavin started out their musical career with Mika Miko, the band they started in 2003 along with three other newborn musicians. Despite the succes of Mika Miko the band split up in 2010, as several members wanted to return to school. The sisters grew apart but got together a little later, starting with their first duo project, Bleached. A number of well-received singles from the the sisters followed, and therefore, the release of their very own LP was inevitable.

First Listen: Vondelpark - Seabed

After a small series of EP’s the band brought out the past years, the British R&B/indie/synthpop band Vondelpark released its very first LP called Seabed on April 1st.

In contrast to previous work, this new Seabed seems to emphasize rather on dream and indie pop than they used to making their previous songs. Nevertheless, the album still retains its unique atmosphere, often mixed with similar electronic sounds.

Along with 9 new songs, the album contains a remake from its 2010 Sauna EP,California Analog Dream, also the second single from the new LP (along with the newborn song Dracula).

First Listen: Flaming Lips - The Terror

Following up their Heady Fwends-album the band released in April last year, the new Flaming Lips-album is to be released in two days, but is already available on Spotify.

This upcoming The Terror contains many similarities with its predecessor, but might as well be the musical counterpart of their previous The Flaming Lips and Heady Fwends, as it often replaces songs crowded with background noises with a more natural, subdued atmosphere and a sound which is a combination of ambient, space rock and neo-psychedelia.

Music Video: Youth Lagoon - Attic Doctor

After making a renowned album in his bedroom (his debut album The Year Of Hibernation was released in 2011, Ed.), the 24-years-old Trevor Powers released his sophomore album almost a month ago, Wondrous Bughouse, this time with a full cast where his typical synthesizer sound is combined with some great psychedelic guitar riffs and some drum rhythms. He recorded this performance, along with a video of Dropla, for the alternative music webzine Pitchfork.

First Listen: The Strokes - Comedown Machine

Unlike their preceding albums, this upcoming Strokes-album (which will be released on March 26, Ed.) is less influenced by their typical indie/garage rock sound, but more by the elektropop/new wave sounds the band started to apply with the creation of their previous album Angles.

Review: Suede - Bloodsports

Following the band's second incarnation after their breakup in 2003, the band released its fifth studio album, called Bloodsports, leading to an unexpected continuation of the band's musical interpretation anno 1996, as well as elements from its latest album A New Morning.
